PHOENIX (AP) - The leader of the Phoenix Goddess Temple that offered spiritual and touch-based healing services in exchange for donations has been sentenced to 4 ½ years in prison.

Tracy Elise also was sentenced Thursday to four years of supervised probation.

She was convicted in March on 22 counts including one of operating a house of prostitution.

She also was found guilty on 12 counts of money laundering, six counts of pandering and one count each of conspiracy to commit illegal control of an enterprise, illegal control of an enterprise and prostitution.

Phoenix police raided the Goddess Temple in 2011 after a grand jury indictment.

Elise represented herself in the case. In closing arguments, she said her religious practices weren’t being recognized by the state and her freedom was being infringed upon.
