SPOKANE, Wash. (AP) - Authorities say a Spokane police officer riding a motorcycle was injured when he collided with a car while chasing two others.

The Spokesman-Review reports (https://goo.gl/6dbjSl ) the officer was pursuing cars that appeared to be racing on a North Spokane street Thursday afternoon when the crash occurred.

Spokane police spokeswoman Teresa Fuller says witnesses reported the officer had lights and his siren on, approached an intersection and hit the side of a car.

Fuller says the officer was taken to a hospital with what officials believed were serious injuries but says he has been walking and able to talk.

Authorities say the driver of the car was not injured.

The officer’s name has not been released but he’s worked with the motorcycle unit for six years.

The Washington State Patrol is investigating.
