WILMINGTON, Del. (AP) - New Castle County police have received reports of black bear sightings in residential areas.

Police tell news outlets that the first of two sightings was reported Tuesday night while the second was reported Wednesday morning.

According to police, the bear was first seen eating from a trash can and birdfeeder in the Ramsey Ridge community Tuesday. The second sighting occurred the following morning in the Wood Creek community. In both cases, authorities responded, but did not locate the animal.

Black bear sightings are rare in the area. Police are advising residents to remain calm if they spot a bear.

Sgt. John McDerby of the Division of Fish & Wildlife Natural Resources Police says the bear could be the same one that was spotted in Pennsylvania Monday night.
