HARRISBURG, Pa. (AP) - Democratic Gov. Tom Wolf’s administration isn’t planning to meet the first deadline for states to submit compliance reports under President Barack Obama’s plan to curtail greenhouse gas emissions from power plants.
Wolf’s environmental protection secretary, John Quigley, said his agency is waiting for courts to settle legal challenges, StateImpact Pennsylvania reports (https://n.pr/20baHgl ). The first deadline is September.
Quigley made the comments to members of the Greater Philadelphia Chamber of Commerce on Wednesday. The U.S. Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia Circuit will hear arguments Sept. 27 in suits filed by two dozen states and more than 100 conservative advocacy groups, electric utilities and coal mining companies.
Quigley says his agency can rapidly finalize a plan once the courts act and the rule becomes clear.
