SAGINAW, Mich. (AP) - A Saginaw man has been charged with murder in the slaying of his 30-year-old stepdaughter whose body was found in the trunk of her parked car.

The Saginaw News reports (https://bit.ly/22hGxd1 ) that 50-year-old Ralph Cottenham was ordered held without bond following a Thursday arraignment in district court.

Amber Morris’s body was found April 30. An official cause of death has not been released, but authorities believe she was strangled. They are awaiting toxicology results.

A judge entered a not guilty plea Thursday for Cottenham. A preliminary hearing is scheduled for June 7.

Cottenham’s home was searched Thursday by police.

The newspaper says Cottenham served 15 years in prison for the 1996 stabbing of a girlfriend. He was paroled in 2012.
