ANN ARBOR, Mich. (AP) - Regents at the University of Michigan have approved the schematic design for a planned 297,000-square-foot health center in Brighton.

The school says the board also on Thursday approved authorization to issue bids and award contracts for excavation and grading, construction of parking lots and roadways and on-site utility work.

The $175 million facility will be on 32 acres owned by the University of Michigan Health System. It is expected to offer more than 40 medical services and improve access patients in the Livingston County area.

Construction is expected to be completed in summer 2018.

Plans also have been announced for a 75,000-square-foot health center on the west side of Ann Arbor. That $46 million project is expected to open next year.
