JUNEAU, Alaska (AP) - The Alaska Republican Party has new leadership.

Tuckerman Babcock was elected chairman and Rick Whitbeck was elected vice chairman during the party convention last weekend in Fairbanks.

Babcock replaces Peter Goldberg, who did not seek re-election to the post. Goldberg was elected instead as national committeeman. The party, in a release, says Cynthia Henry will continue in her position as national committeewoman.

The party said that due to a rules change at the convention, Babcock begins in his role immediately rather than having to wait until early next year to take the helm.
