BATON ROUGE, La. (AP) - Weeks after the Baton Rouge Metropolitan Airport began charging higher parking fees, aviation leaders are preparing to move forward with garage repairs.

The Advocate (https://bit.ly/1Z1E8AZ) reports the upgrades have been estimated to cost $5.1 million. During its last meeting, the Metro Council approved issuing bonds to pay for the work. Money from the increased parking fees will be used to repay the bonds over 25 years.

Daily garage rates have risen from $10 to $12, and parking lot rates went from $7 to $9.

City-Parish Councilman Trae Welch, also an Airport Commission member, says water is intruding in the concrete of the airport’s older garage. The project will plug leaks and add LED lights to the garage, built in 1995. The older garage will remain partially open during the work.
