LAS VEGAS (AP) - Authorities say a golden lion statue that was taken from an art installation on a Las Vegas street median has been found.

The statue was found by a resident Monday, a day after it went missing from Decatur Boulevard and Flamingo Road. The art installation had featured the lion with pink alligators surrounding the statue. Officials say the alligators were vandalized.

Officer Laura Meltzer says county officials just need to identify the statue as theirs to reclaim it.

The artwork had been created by Las Vegas artist Chris Bauder and was installed as part of a Clark County public art program.

It’s unclear whether the lion will return to the median.

County spokesman Erik Pappa says the thief could face a larceny charge if caught.
