BOSTON (AP) - Republican Gov. Charlie Baker is distancing himself from a GOP fundraising appeal that offered groups access to him in exchange for political donations.

The Boston Globe reported the state GOP recently solicited donations from political action committees and offered meetings, one-on-one calls, and fundraising events with Baker and Lt. Gov. Karyn Polito.

Baker told reporters Monday he didn’t see the letter until it appeared in the newspaper.

Baker said one of his hallmarks is what he called an “open door administration.”

He said he meets with all kinds of people on important issues, including those he agrees with and those he doesn’t agree with.

Massachusetts Democrats criticized the fundraising arrangement.

Common Cause Massachusetts Executive Director Pam Wilmot said the party appears to be overtly selling access to Baker and Polito.
