ALEXANDRIA, Va. (AP) - Virginia State Police say one person is dead after a wrong-way crash on the Capital Beltway.

Police said in a release that they received a report of a vehicle driving the wrong way on Interstate 495 early Monday and as troopers responded, they learned that the SUV had hit another vehicle in Fairfax County.

Police say a Honda CR-V was eastbound in westbound lanes when it hit a Chevrolet Tahoe head-on. A westbound Dodge Caravan was also damaged by debris from the crash.

Police say the male driver of the Honda died at the scene. Two people in the Chevrolet and the driver of the Dodge were taken to a hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

Police say the cause of the crash remains under investigation.
