Saginaw upgrading water system, plans to borrow up to $19M

SAGINAW, Mich. (AP) - Saginaw is upgrading its drinking water system and city leaders plan to borrow up to $19 million to complete the work.

The Saginaw News reports (https://bit.ly/1rdupws ) City Council last month authorized the sale of bonds to finance the project, which includes the installation of two new water mains in Saginaw County’s Kochville Township and improvements to the city’s nearby reservoir.

Paul Reinsch, Saginaw’s Water Treatment Division superintendent, says the work will reduce ongoing costs, improve water quality and result in a more reliable water system.

The total cost of the project is estimated at about $17.6 million, but City Council gave city officials permission to borrow up to $19 million.
