SPOKANE, Washington (AP) - A Spokane police officer shot a man wielding a machete downtown early Sunday morning.

The Spokesman-Review (https://bit.ly/24g6iiC ) reports that the man was taken to a hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

Officer Teresa Fuller, police spokeswoman, said in a news release that no officers were injured.

According to the news release, police unsuccessfully attempted to subdue the man with a Taser after two citizens reported that he chased and threatened them while outside a bar. After negotiating with the man for 20 minutes, police fired weapons - which included both blunt impact munitions and a firearm - when the man walked through an open door at an apartment building.

Officers were wearing body cameras, and footage will be reviewed by investigators.
