FORT TOTTEN, N.D. (AP) - A toddler is fine after spending the night alone in a car that was towed after a traffic stop in the community of Fort Totten on the Spirit Lake Indian Reservation.

Tow truck driver Cliff Reeves tells WDAY-TV (https://bit.ly/1SFU37C ) that he was called out to tow the car about 2 a.m. Sunday. Reeves’ son went to unhook the car from the wrecker at about 10 a.m. and spotted the little girl in the back seat.

Social service officials took the 2-year-old child into protective custody.

The tribe’s police chief referred The Associated Press to the Bureau of Indian Affairs for details on the incident. The agency’s spokeswoman, Nedra Darling, says the case is under administrative investigation. She says “any breach of policy discovered relating to or contributing to this incident will be addressed internally.”
