MANTEO, N.C. (AP) - The Bonner Bridge over Oregon Inlet will be closed for no more than a half hour so state Transportation Department workers can conduct an annual scan of the bridge deck.

Traffic will be halted on both ends of the bridge as road crews conduct the scan starting at 9 a.m. Friday. The department said in a news release that the bridge will reopen by 9:30 a.m.

A truck with a GPS reader will travel the bridge in both directions to gather location data from several data points. The data will be compared to previous data gathered last year to determine if there has been any abnormal movement of the bridge.

A new bridge is scheduled to open in the fall of 2018.
