LAWTON, Okla. (AP) - The Comanche Nation Business Committee has decided to hold a do-over general election for the Lawton-based tribe’s agency.

Comanche Nation spokeswoman Jolene Schonchin tells the Lawton Constitution (https://bit.ly/1TssUEo ) that the board voted Wednesday to have a new election after William Nelson, who’s running for chairman, filed a protest Tuesday regarding the process of the election. She said no one on the board opposed to the new election, but two members abstained.

Results from the now invalidated general election had Will Owens and Mike Burgess locked in a runoff for the chairman post. Eddie Ahdosy and Janet Saupitty were set to vie for the No. 2 committeeman seat, while incumbent Jonathan Poahway had won the No. 1 committeeman seat.

The new election will be held July 2 at designated polling sites in southwest Oklahoma.
