Cops familiar with house where man killed woman, then self

CANDLER, N.C. (AP) - The Buncombe County sheriff says a man shot and killed a woman in his home before turning the gun on himself.

Sheriff Van Duncan told WLOS-TV (https://bit.ly/22ik93h ) that his deputies have been called to the home near Candler before, including for a standoff involving the couple in December.

Duncan says his officers were checking on a call about shots fired at the home around 3:30 a.m. Friday and heard more gunshots.

Authorities say 64-year-old Frank Contrivo and 58-year-old Elizabeth Contrivo were found dead inside.

Duncan says there was at least one protective order out against Frank Contrivo.
