GREENWOOD, S.C. (AP) - A jury has found a 22-year-old father not guilty in the death of his 3-month old daughter.

Prosecutors said at Quentico Dunlap’s trial this week that he shook the baby at a Greenwood home, causing her brain to swell before she died in March 2015.

But The Index-Journal of Greenwood (https://bit.ly/1W6vbZf ) reports a jury deliberated 30 minutes Thursday before finding Dunlap not guilty of homicide by child abuse.

Dunlap’s lawyer says the child could have suffered from a rare condition that causes bleeding the brain without trauma, noting the infant didn’t have broken bones or neck muscle injuries common in shaken baby cases.

After the verdict, Circuit Judge Frank Addy Jr. thanked the jury for not making him sentence a man when he wasn’t sure the verdict was right.
