BEVERLY, Mass. (AP) - The state fire marshal has determined a table lamp was the source of a house fire that killed a 76-year-old man in Beverly.

Massachusetts Fire Marshal Peter Ostroskey said Friday that investigators have concluded the Thursday morning fire started with a lamp located in the living room of a first floor apartment where Clark Young lived.

But he said it wasn’t clear whether the lamp had some sort of electrical failure or if it was accidentally knocked over and ignited nearby materials.

Young’s wife and other occupants of the three-story building on Highland Terrace safely escaped, though some were treated for injuries at a local hospital.

Ostroskey said the neighboring house and two vehicles also suffered fire damage.
