CONWAY, N.H. (AP) - A fund has been created at Humane Society chapter in New Hampshire following the death of a mount-trekking dog featured in the popular book, “Following Atticus.”
The miniature Schnauzer, named Atticus Maxwell Finch, led more than 450 climbs of the White Mountains.
Atticus, who died May 13, had been a companion for 14 years to author Tom Ryan. His book was published in 2011. He was inspired by a close friend who had died of cancer. Man and dog attempted to climb all of New Hampshire’s 48, 4,000-foot peaks twice in one winter while raising money for charity.
Ryan chose the Conway Area Humane Shelter as a place where people can make donations in Atticus’ memory.
