BISMARCK, N.D. (AP) - A man has been sentenced to nearly three years in prison for assaulting a Bureau of Indian Affairs officer on the Fort Berthold Reservation.
Benedict Frank Heart Sr., of New Town, pleaded guilty in December to assaulting and resisting a federal officer.
Authorities say the 32-year-old Heart attacked and injured the BIA officer in June 2015.
U.S. District Judge Daniel Hovland sentenced Heart to 33 months in prison and ordered him to pay $623 to North Dakota Workforce Safety and Insurance.
Heart pleaded guilty in Burleigh County Court in February to simple assault for allegedly hitting a fellow inmate in the back of the head in September while he was being held in a Bismarck jail. Heart received a 14-day suspended sentence.
