PONTIAC, Mich. (AP) - A 27-year-old New Orleans man has been arraigned on a first-degree murder charge in the slaying of a Detroit-area man.

The Oakland Press of Pontiac reports (https://bit.ly/25e9f3J ) that Arcell Carter appeared Friday in Pontiac District Court.

The Oakland County sheriff’s office has said deputies were at an apartment complex Tuesday afternoon on an unrelated call and heard gunshots.

Additional deputies were called to the neighborhood and 30-year-old Trumaine Walker of Pontiac was found nearby. He had been shot numerous times with a high-powered rifle and later pronounced dead at a hospital.

Carter was arrested Wednesday. A rifle believed to have been used in the shooting was recovered.

Carter pleaded not guilty and is jailed without bond. He faces a May 31 probable cause conference and June 7 preliminary examination.
