OLIVE, N.Y. (AP) - Students at a Hudson Valley high school are mourning the death of a 16-year-old classmate who died when his car crashed into a utility pole.

State police say Damein Kovacs, of the town of Olive, was driving Wednesday evening on state Route 28 in his Ulster County hometown when his car left the roadway and hit a pole.

Troopers say the teen died at the scene. His 8-year-old sister suffered minor injuries and was treated at a hospital and released.

Kovacs was a sophomore at Onteora High School, where he was a member of the football and wrestling teams.

School district officials say a crisis intervention team is available for students and staff those who need its services.

Troopers say the cause of the crash remains under investigation.
