WELLINGTON, New Zealand (AP) - New Zealand footballer Clayton Lewis is being investigated for a possible doping violation and has been removed from the national team which will compete at the Oceania Nations Cup this month.

In a statement on Friday, New Zealand Football said a sample taken from Lewis after a national premiership match in February contained a high level of ventolin.

Ventolin is a common asthma medication, and was prescribed for the 19-year-old Lewis by a doctor. But NZF suggested the elevated level was a “potential adverse analytical finding.”

It said while Lewis was not subject to any suspension or disciplinary action, he will not be available for international selection until an investigation is completed.
