FLINT, Mich. (AP) - Former Michigan State star and ex-NBA player Morris Peterson says a celebrity basketball game featuring rapper Snoop Dogg is to “make people feel good” as Flint deals with a lead-tainted water crisis.
The Flint Journal reports (https://bit.ly/1TpwQUc ) that Peterson, a Flint native, said Friday at a news conference that participants “just want to bring some positive light to the situation.”
Flint was under state management when it switched from Detroit’s water system in 2014 to the Flint River to save money. The river water was not treated with anti-corrosive chemicals, causing lead to leach from old water lines.
“Hoop 4 Water” is scheduled Saturday at the Dort Federal Credit Union Event Center in Flint. Proceeds from the event will go toward the Morris Peterson Jr. Foundation for water relief efforts.
