TEXAS CITY, Texas (AP) - The Texas City Independent School District will soon have sole access to La Marque (luh-MARK’) schools in annexation of the troubled neighboring district.

The Galveston County Daily News (https://bit.ly/1TLbQqt ) reports the La Marque school board voted Thursday to put employees on administrative leave next month.

The Texas Education Agency in February 2015 revoked the La Marque ISD’s accreditation, citing unacceptable academic ratings and poor finances. TEA announced plans to replace trustees with a board of managers. TEA advised the La Marque ISD that it would be closed by July 1.

The last day of classes for the more than 2,300 La Marque students is June 2. Graduation is the following day, which is also when district employees go on administrative leave. All workers get full pay until the district closes.
