SYRACUSE, N.Y. (AP) - Closing arguments are being made in the trial of a central New York man charged with stabbing a 16-year-old girl to death and wounding the victim’s mother.

Time Warner Cable News reports (https://bit.ly/1OQlTyj ) that 36-year-old Marc Czternastek (STER’-nah-stehk) surprised an Onondaga County courtroom Thursday when he took the stand in his own defense and said he might have killed Shannon Ingraham and assaulted her mother but has no recollection of it because he was on drugs at the time of the attack last June.

Police say Czternastek killed the teen in her bedroom at her mother’s home in Lyncourt, outside Syracuse. Officials say he then stabbed the teen’s mother, Kim Kyanka, and held her hostage for 12 hours before she managed to escape.

Closing arguments are being made Friday.
