WATERLOO, Iowa (AP) - A Waterloo man who pleaded guilty to killing his former girlfriend has been sentenced to 50 years in prison.

He was initially charged with first-degree murder but pleaded guilty to the reduced charge in a plea deal with prosecutors.

Gaffney’s body was found in the middle of a road near Walker in Linn County. An autopsy determined she died of head trauma.
