WILLISTON, N.D. (AP) - Former Williston State College basketball standout Kia Herbel has been named head coach of the school’s women’s basketball team.
Herbel last season was head coach at United Tribes Technical College in Bismarck, where she won 18 games with only six players on the team. The team qualified for the NJCAA National Tournament, and Herbel was named coach of the year in the district and region.
The New Town native played two seasons for the Tetons and went on to become an All-American at Dickinson State. After her college career, she played two seasons with a profession team in Portugal before getting into coaching.
Herbel succeeds Luanne Axelson, who retired earlier this year.
