CHANDLER, Ariz. (AP) - Chandler has a new fire chief.

City Manager Marsha Reed announced Friday that Tom Dwiggins will be the new head of the Phoenix suburb’s fire department.

Dwiggins, who has been interim fire chief since January, has been with the department since 1998.

He rose through the ranks and became assistant fire chief in 2014.

Reed says Dwiggins has the expertise and relationships to effectively oversee the department.

Dwiggins will begin his new role Monday.
