ABBEVILLE, La. (AP) - Vermilion Parish sheriff’s deputies say an Abbeville man is accused of fatally shooting a man from Maurice that also left a 17-year-old girl injured.

Deputies said in a news release received by The Advocate (https://bit.ly/1XQvJ56) 21-year-old Davian Layne Bessard is accused of a count of second-degree murder in the shooting death of 22-year-old Jeremiah Carltrell Walker.

The news release says deputies responding to gunfire around 2:22 a.m. Monday found Walker suffering from multiple gunshot wounds and a 17-year-old girl suffering from a gunshot wound in her upper arm.

Sheriff Mike Couvillon (KOO’-vee-yawn) said the girl was treated and released from an area hospital.

Bessard remained in the Vermilion Parish jail in lieu of $500,000 bail.

Online jail records do not list an attorney for Bessard.
