GASTON, S.C. (AP) - South Carolina Highway Patrol troopers are investigating a hit-and-run that left a truck driver dead in Calhoun County.

Local media outlets report it happened around midnight Monday on a road about 4 miles east of Gaston.

The patrol says the driver was standing beside his 18-wheeler when he was struck and killed by a motorist who then drove off.

The name of the victim has not been released. Authorities have not yet released a description of the vehicle. But the patrol says the trucker may have been struck by a car.
