LOS ANGELES (AP) - Los Angeles police are asking for the public’s help in identifying a man who beat a small dog and left it dead on a Westlake sidewalk.

A witness tells investigators he saw the dog jump out of a silver Dodge Caravan Monday afternoon, followed by the minivan’s driver.

The driver, described as a white man in his 50s, chased down the dog and punched it several times. The witness says the man threw the dog to the sidewalk several times until the animal was dead. The man then drove off in the van.

The LAPD’s Animal Cruelty Task Force says the suspect is about 6 feet 2 and 280 pounds with balding gray hair.

City News Service reports the Caravan is a model from the late 1990s with an off-color bumper.
