CANTON, Miss. (AP) - Madison County authorities are investigating the death of a 1-year-old boy.
Multiple media reports say Coroner Alex Breeland was called to Merit Health Madison around noon Tuesday.
Sheriff’s spokesman Heath Hall said the child’s parents woke up about 11 a.m. and found the baby unresponsive. The parents rushed the baby to the hospital, where Breeland pronounced him dead.
Breeland said the cause of death is unknown but an autopsy will be performed. He would not comment further.
Hall says once a cause of death is determined, the Sheriff’s Department “will proceed from there.” He says it’s routine procedure for a hospital to contact law enforcement in cases like this one. Foul play is not suspected, but an investigation is underway, Hall said.
