SPRINGFIELD, Va. (AP) - Police say they’ve charged two Maryland men in a northern Virginia jewelry store robbery that led to a shootout with police that left a bystander wounded.

Fairfax County Police announced in a statement Tuesday that 24-year-old William Franklin and 26-year-old Jasminder Sethi were arrested Monday. Both are from Waldorf, Maryland. Police say Franklin is charged with robbery and a firearm offense and Sethi with robbery. Efforts to reach their families for comment were unsuccessful.

Police say they’re still trying to determine the men’s roles.

Chief Col. Edwin Roessler Jr. says an officer confronted a man leaving Dubai Jewelers in Springfield on Saturday and they exchanged gunfire. He says a shot, likely from the suspect, struck a bystander. Police say the man crashed a car, carjacked another, then fled on foot.
