MCALLEN, Texas (AP) - Fire officials say an IHOP restaurant in South Texas was a total loss after a fire.

Fire Chief Ralph Balderas says that when they arrived Monday evening at the McAllen restaurant everyone inside had been evacuated and there were no injuries reported.

Balderas says that shortly after arriving they had to go into a defensive position “after realizing it was too dangerous to keep men inside.”

He says it’s unknown what caused the fire, but that it started in the attic.
