SARATOGA, Wyo. (AP) - Residents aided by troops from the Wyoming National Guard and others have filled and placed thousands of sandbags along the North Platte River in Saratoga.
Carbon County Emergency Manager John Zeiger says the sandbags will protect the town if the river reaches 10 feet. In 2011, the North Platte River at Saratoga reached a historic crest of 10.49 feet.
The river is expected to be around 9 feet through this week.
The Rawlins Daily Times reports (https://bit.ly/1syQtlQ ) that Guard units are expected to remain in Saratoga through Thursday, and other crews may remain longer, depending on flooding conditions.
Zeiger says that currently the only other Carbon County community where flooding could become a problem is Baggs.
