SALT LAKE CITY (AP) - The Utah Transit Authority has decided to reopen meetings of its board’s subcommittees after the agency was criticized for closing them to the public.
The Salt Lake Tribune reports (https://bit.ly/1WglNCF ) UTA chairman H. David Burton announced Tuesday that the transit agency decided to hold open committee meetings after hearing from stakeholders and the public.
Earlier this month, UTA said it was closing the meetings and final decisions would be made by its full board instead of the committees. Board members sit on the committees, which focus on different topics such as finance or planning.
UTA said the committees would instead hold “informal work sessions” that were exempt from open meeting laws.
UTA’s decision to reopen the committee meetings came after county officials and Gov. Gary Herbert criticized the agency.
