COLCHESTER, Vt. (AP) - Vermonters struggling with addiction who have had to face lengthy waitlists for treatment are getting some relief.
Vermont Public Radio reports (https://bit.ly/27RCGYg ) the number of people waiting for treatment at the state’s hub centers has dropped by about 100 as the number of residents in treatment has increased by several hundred.
The shift comes after Gov. Peter Shumlin visited the University of Vermont Medical Center in Burlington and pleaded for doctors to do more.
Dr. Patti Fisher says she was asked to help address the waiting list and says not many physicians were signing up to prescribe buprenorphine, also known as Suboxone, as part of addiction treatment.
But she says that in the last six months more physicians have become licensed to prescribe in their practices.
