VINTON, Iowa (AP) - A Vinton woman has pleaded guilty to a charge connected to the fatal accident shooting of a 14-year-old girl in eastern Iowa.
The charge is providing a firearm to a prohibited person. Authorities say she provided a semi-automatic rifle to her 16-year-old son, who she knew used marijuana. The Associated Press generally doesn’t name juveniles accused of crimes, so is not using the name of the woman.
Authorities say Emma Redlinger was shot in the head Feb. 24, 2015, by a teenager handling the rifle at a home in Vinton. She died four days later.
Authorities say a teenager other than the woman’s son was handling the gun when it fired. The teenager is scheduled for trial in July on charges of involuntary manslaughter and interference with official acts.
