BRITTON, S.D. (AP) - Anonymous donors have pledged $1 million to help build a new community center in Britton to replace the Kidder Gym.
Paula Jensen with Glacial Lakes Area Development tells The Daily Republic newspaper (https://bit.ly/244DHas ) that the community has been challenged to match that amount this summer for the facility. It has an estimated price tag of at least $2.4 million.
Jensen says a new center hasn’t been designed yet. But she says there have been discussions about 4-H classrooms, an archery and BB gun area, a gym, a walking track, and a preschool and 24-hour day care center.
Britton-Hecla Superintendent Steve Benson says the Kidder Gym on the high school grounds is falling apart. The School Board plans to have it demolished by July 15.
