MILFORD, Del. (AP) - The construction of Bayhealth’s new, $300 million health campus in Milford has officially begun.

After years of planning, construction on the facility kicked off Tuesday with a groundbreaking ceremony.

Bayhealth CEO and President Terry Murphy says the 165-acre campus will allow the company to grow 50 to 100 years into the future. The hospital will include six floors, covering approximately 437,000-square-feet. It will offer expanded inpatient, outpatient and specialty treatments.

Furthermore, the hospital will include a collaboration with Nemours, a company that specializes in pediatric care. Nemours Executive Vice President Dr. Roy Proujansky says the Nemours facility will offer a type of pediatric care that is currently unavailable in south Delaware.

Bayhealth plans to stay in its old Milford facility on Clarke Avenue until 2019.
