MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. (AP) - A ban on golf carts on the streets in some parts of Myrtle Beach will be in effect during the upcoming holiday weekend, a move one rental company says will take a big slice out of business.

Local media outlets report the carts are banned from a busy section of Ocean Boulevard along the shorefront

Ben Robinson rents golf carts and says he will lose $80,000 this weekend because of the restriction.

Authorities say the ban is needed because side streets are blocked on Ocean Boulevard to keep traffic moving during the holiday weekend when an estimated 400,000 people visit the area.

Because the side streets are blocked, the carts would have had to return to rental shops on busy U.S. 17 Business where they already were banned.
