COVENTRY, Conn. (AP) - Police say a pickup truck driver has been killed in a crash involving a fuel delivery tanker.

Police were called to the scene on U.S. Route 44 in Coventry late Tuesday night.

Officers found a pickup truck had driven into the back of the fuel delivery truck. Investigators determined the East Haven-based tractor-trailer had stopped and was preparing to make a turn at the time of the crash.

Police say the pickup driver died at the scene. The name of driver, the only occupant in the vehicle, hasn’t been released.

A portion of U.S. Route 44 was closed for several hours as authorities investigated.

The cause of the crash has not been determined.
