WILTON, Iowa (AP) - The eastern Iowa city of Wilton has received funding to renovate much of its small, historic downtown.

The Muscatine Journal reports (https://bit.ly/1U8tIeE ) the community has been awarded a $500,000 federal grant to help fund the renovation of 18 downtown storefronts.

City Administrator Chris Ball says the grant will be added to $250,000 from the city and an equal share from property owners to bring total funding to about $1 million.

Becky Allgood, executive director of the Wilton Development Corporation, says building owners are eager to begin the renovations.

Allgood also says the State National Register Nominations Review Committee will meet in Wilton in June and consider a proposal to list much of the downtown area on the National Register of Historic Places.
