EL RENO, Okla. (AP) - A graduate of an El Reno high school is suing the district, saying the high school’s head baseball coach bullied and harassed him.
The Oklahoman (https://bit.ly/1Tzk3E6 ) reports that the lawsuit filed in Canadian County District Court claims Mustang High School coach Scott Selby “harassed, mocked, isolated, humiliated and discriminated against” now 18-year-old Riley Thomas for unspecified reasons during the 2014-15 school year.
Thomas is seeking damages in excess of $10,000.
Superintendent Sean McDaniel said in an email to the newspaper that the lawsuit doesn’t have merit and that the district will vigorously defend it.
McDaniel says Selby will soon step down as the head baseball coach to assume assistant athletic director duties full time.
The newspaper’s requests for comment from 51-year-old Selby weren’t immediately returned.
