BOONTON TOWNSHIP, N.J. (AP) - Authorities say a 55-year-old man is facing charges after he let his 13-year-old child drive a van that crashed and overturned last week in northern New Jersey.

Police say they received a report of an overturned van in Boonton Township last week and arrived to find the van against a tree off the side of the road. The man and teen escaped from the vehicle by crawling out the back window and weren’t seriously hurt.

The man has been charged with allowing an unlicensed driver to operate a motor vehicle, failure to wear a seatbelt and having an unregistered vehicle.

Authorities didn’t immediately identify the man.
