FORT WAYNE, Ind. (AP) - General Electric is looking to find a developer or investor for its campus in Fort Wayne that has been vacant more than a year.
The company issued a statement Wednesday saying it will be working with Greater Fort Wayne Inc., whose CEO, Eric Doden, says the agency already has interest from national developers.
The campus covers about 31 acres just south of downtown. A group of local officials and residents has been meeting for months to consider ideas.
The campus, which now has been listed for sale, has been empty since January 2015. GE had operated at the site since 1911 and once employed more than 10,000 people producing a wide range of products.
Mayor Tom Henry says he remains optimistic a viable plan will be developed.
