HAGERSTOWN, Md. (AP) - The city of Hagerstown says a former captain of the District of Columbia’s police department will be the next police chief in the western Maryland city.
City Administrator Valerie Means announced the appointment of Victor Brito (BREET’-oh) Wednesday. She says he’ll be sworn in June 7.
Brito succeeds Mark Holtzman, who retired last year.
Means says that Brito is a leader with integrity who has demonstrated his commitment to the community he serves.
Brito served for 25 years in the D.C. Metropolitan Police Department. He retired in 2014 and is an adjunct professor at American University’s Department of Justice, Law and Criminology.
