DENVER (AP) - Prosecutors have charged a man after his 3-year-old son found a gun and accidentally shot himself in the hip.

The Denver Post reports (https://goo.gl/LqsV2g ) 22-year-old Tagee Robinson faces one count of child abuse resulting in serious bodily injury, as well as possession of a weapon by a previous offender.

Denver District Attorney spokeswoman Maro Casparian says Robinson kept the .38-caliber pistol in a safe, where the boy found it Sunday. It’s unclear if the boy turned a key that was in the safe or if the safe was unlocked.

Robinson, who has been released on bond, could not be reached for comment Wednesday night.
